Harlequins

The Eldar Harlequins were the first army I collected as a boy. With the forthcoming release of new models and rules for them, I decided to dig out my collection.

Reference

I took some rough photos for cataloguing what I have.

Progress

My first finished unit is a Troupe of Light.

Next up, their accompanying Shadowseer and Death Jester.

Another formation, the Heroes Path.

I converted the Shadowseer by bending his arm and adding a staff made of plastic rod and sculpted parts.

The Solitaire is converted from the Mordheim Aenur – Sword of Twilight which was free with White Dwarf magazine many years ago.

The Solitaire plays the role of Slaanesh in the Harlequins performances. I represented this with an icon of Slaanesh and daemon faces glowing in the inside of his cape.

Skyweavers with Haywire Cannon. The back conversion piece is available from my Shapeways store

Adapting Rogue Trader models to the 7th Edition Codex

I’m using old models from the Rogue Trader era, but the Harlequin rules have changed a bit since then. In particular their armament includes some new weapons and does away with some of the old ones.

Rules as written – “Counts-as”

General weapons changes:

  • Las-pistol – counts as Shuriken Pistol
  • Chainsword or sword – counts as Close Combat Weapon (except for power sword/Storied Sword, which I paint blue)
  • Harlequin’s Kiss – unchanged
  • Axe or Power axe – counts as Harlequin’s Embrace
  • Power Fist – counts as Harlequin’s Caress

Specific units:

  • Troupe
    • Hand flamer – counts as Fusion Pistol
    • Dual pistol models – I’ve opted not to use these for the moment, with the exception of a dual-shuriken pistol model who counts as using Crescendo
  • Shadowseer
    • Whichever CCW they have counts as Miststave, though I’m converting a couple of them to look more appropriate. The old High Warlock with a hood and blank mask represents the ‘Mask of Secrets’ nicely.
  • Death Jester
    • Lascannon/Brightlance counts as Shrieker Cannon (since they don’t have any choice)
  • Solitaire
    • Whichever weapons they have count as Kiss + Caress (since they don’t have any choice either). I converted mine though.
  • Jetbikes
    • I’m converting Harlequin jetbikes into Skyweavers by adding a chunk to the back with a standing figure.
  • Voidweaver
    • There wasn’t anything like this in Rogue Trader, but you need one for several of the formations, so do what you have to do.
